Placement. Probably the biggest attraction of metal bar stools is the fact that it can stand up to almost anything, including sun, rain and small children, but there are some placement tips you may want to keep in mind. If you are only using your stools outdoors, you may want to consider buying covers to keep direct sun and rain off of them when not in use. You also don`t want to keep your metal furniture directly over a heating vent since the constant and dramatic changes in temperature can weaken the metal, especially if you have thin wrought iron style bar stools.
Choose The Right Stool. Before you do invest in these, do take the time to ensure that the stools will work in your kitchen. There are a variety of kitchen counter heights so your first step is to measure the amount of space under the kitchen countertop where you wish to position these to the floor. You do not want the height of the stool`s seat to come within at least six inches of the top of the counter if possible. If so, it will be difficult for people to sit there comfortably. If this is not possible because the counter top is lower, then ensure there is enough room for the stools to be comfortably pulled away from the counter.
The size of outdoor bar stools may come in heights from 28 to 34 inches tall and 16 to 25 inches wide. How an outdoor stool will be utilized will dictated by its size and height. Chose a stool size that will be best suited for the environment in which it will be used.
Cleaning. In most cases, cleaning your metal bar stools with simple soap and warm water will be more than enough, but it is important that you dry off the metal surfaces so that no rusting occurs. You also want to wash them as soon as you can since older dirt, food and dust will be more difficult to clean. If you are stymied with a spot that really doesn`t want to come out, go ahead and use some mild dish washing detergent, but make sure that you don`t leave any residue on the metal once you are done. Clean and dry the surface when you are finished and if you want to go the extra mile, use filtered water to even out the pH level.
Plastic Stools. Molded plastic stools are affordable and weatherproof, but are less durable than other options and are often unattractive. If you live in a very hot region, the stools may not last more than one or two seasons because heat and light quickly degrade plastic. Plastic stools should also be stored in winter to prevent damage from extreme cold.
